LESSONS FROM THE NEVER-ENDING JOURNEY
Dear Diary :)
I’m writing these lines as a
passenger who has been waiting at a bus terminal for nearly five hours... You
could call this journey a strange kind of “education” too. :)
In fact, every journey taken for
the sake of something beneficial feels like a kind of migration. After all,
you’re giving up your comfort and conveniences, aren’t you? That’s why every
journey contains another adventure, another set of lessons—if you’re willing to
see it that way.
Just as I was wondering what this
trip would bring, the bus broke down, and we couldn't even leave the terminal.
That was the first sign that the night would be full of surprises.
The bus coming from Erzurum broke
down at the Kayseri terminal, and a bus full of people was stranded there.
Despite waiting for hours for it to be repaired, the bus couldn't be fixed. A
new vehicle was requested, and by around 7:00 in the morning, we began waiting
with the hope that a new bus would arrive. :)
Hours later, I found myself
sitting on the steps in the middle of the bus, trying to get some fresh air
while watching the sky brighten behind the mosque minarets. I thought, “This is
a different kind of experience,” and tried to put a big smile on my face.
I observed my surroundings for a
while. The day was breaking, and people were moving quickly all around.
Everyone was heading in a different direction. Some, exhausted from working
through the night, were sleepily trying to take care of things. Some were
smoking on benches while waiting for their bus. Others were pacing back and
forth so their legs wouldn’t go numb after a night of waiting. Some chose to
sleep inside the bus. Some were behind the wheel driving somewhere, while
others were there to send someone off...
Just like life itself...
Everyone had a road to take...
We were all travelers, really. On
a journey that began with birth and would evolve in another direction with
death…
Before boarding a bus, you choose
your destination, get on the bus that will take you there, and whether you
sleep, watch the road, or chat with someone along the way, as long as there’s
no accident, you’ll reach your destination. But life isn’t like that.
Yes, you should first choose
where you want to end up. You should ask yourself, “Where do I want this road
to lead?” But then, with the life you live, you must prove that you truly want
to get there.
Life will constantly ask, “Do you
really want to reach that destination? Then let’s see if you can respond to
this problem in a way that aligns with your path.” That’s when the moments you
sleep, the people you talk to, the things you watch, and the places you spend
time will all become deeply important.
Just like the problem I’m
experiencing right now on my life journey. Life is watching to see how I’ll
respond. Will I make a scene without understanding or listening? Will I lash
out? Or will I try to understand the situation and respond fairly?
Despite all I’ve said,
honestly—I’m content with my share…
This way, it feels more
meaningful…
More satisfying…
If a person has a true purpose,
and if they’re willing to pay the price to reach it, they don’t resent what
they go through—the people who leave, the ones who stay, what’s given, or
what’s withheld...
Because everything is
temporary...
And in a place where everything
is temporary, what difficulty can truly last?
Once again, I gave thanks—for the
blessings I’ve received. Just like this “Never-Ending Journey” … Look how it
sparked all these thoughts in my mind… Before even arriving in Konya, I’ve
already traveled miles in my mind… Alhamdulillah.
It’s now 6:45 a.m... The new bus
will arrive soon, and we’ll hit the road.
Wherever we are, whatever we go
through—it’s not really about-facing difficulties...
What matters is how we respond in
that moment…
May we all be granted the ability
to live lives that reflect our purpose and to reach our intended destinations
with goodness…
